I’ve Done It Again With My The Batman Riddler Action Figure

As mentioned in my previous post ‘Riddler Power Centre and Some News’ I am totally new to the toy collecting business and also mentioned in that post I made a school boy error by purchasing before looking up the item on line, well people I have done it again, i got this Riddler figure from The Batman with no staff 😦

I will state before I go any further that in my excitement in starting this site I went and purchased the Riddler Power Centre, This Figure and three comics Detective Comics #707 ‘Riddled’, Secret Originst Special #1 ‘When is a Door’ and Batman #23.2 ‘Riddler’ so I now realise my error and it won’t be happening again.

This is what i should have got if i wasn’t such a screw up early days by being too eager.

I feel a bit silly having messed up with my first two toy purchases have been with missing pieces but ah well, what can you do.

As mentioned as well at least my kids can play with them and I don’t need to worry about these pieces going missing.

This Riddler figure in case you are thinking that it looks weird comes from the animated series ‘The Batman’ which ran from 2004, I must admit I have only been catching up with it this year and after being totally unsure for the first 10+ episodes have actually came round to it in a big way.

It doesn’t follow the continuity set by the comics, films or that of Batman: The Animated Series but it is a great cartoon once you get into and get past some of the weird designs for some of the characters.

The character designs were provided by Jeff Matsuda who is the president and creative director of X-Ray Kid Studios but is better known more likely to you and I for how work at Marvel comics on X-Factor, Wolverine as well as some individual issues of X-Men, Generation X and Avengers.

He was actually discovered by Rob Liefeld (don’t hold that against him) after submitting some WildC.A.T.S. samples pages to Liefeld’s Extreme Studios and Jim Lee’s Wildstorm.

The Batman won a whole bunch of awards along with receiving Annie Award nominations for Best Animated Television Production in 2005 and 2006.

(from Wiki)
The Batman was nominated for twelve Daytime Emmy Awards during its five year run, winning six times.
In 2005 it was nominated for Outstanding Special Class Animated Program, Outstanding performer in an Animated Program (Kevin Michael Richardson as the Joker), Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition, and Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Live Action and Animation (for which it won).
In 2006 it was nominated and won Outstanding Special Class Animated Program and Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Live Action and Animation.
In 2007 it was nominated for Outstanding Special Class Animated Program and won Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Live Action and Animation.
In 2008 it was nominated for Outstanding Special Class Animated Program and Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program (Kevin Michael Richardson as the Joker), and won Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Live Action and Animation, and Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing – Live Action and Animation.
The Batman was also nominated for Motion Picture Sound Editors “Golden Reel Awards” for Sound Effects Editing in 2005, 2008, and 2009, winning in 2008.

The thing about The Batman is that it followed Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond which are both some of the greatest cartoon/animation series ever made so there was always going to be people unhappy about it and with TAS being aimed at both adults and kids The Batman was always going to be more child orientated.

Personally I was shocked at how different the characters were when I first started to watch it but when you get past the character designs and see them for what they are, they are pretty damn cool and this is why I wanted the Riddler figure from here as one of my first as its different.

Granted I am missing the big question mark staff 😦 but I may eventually see about getting one.

The Riddler was voiced by Robert Englund who is better known as someone else I love in Freddy Krueger from The Nightmare on Elm Street horror movies.

Anyways I tend to waffle of a lot so I will stop now because I want to have an actual post dedicated to ‘The Batman’ and the Riddler appearances in it so will speak more about it them.

So i am off to enjoy the figure I just got 🙂

Take it easy
